Tesla is gearing up for a big step in its self-driving technology. The company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, which helps cars drive on their own with a driver watching, will start getting FSD V14 (Full Self-Driving Version 14) next week. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a post on X from Jason Calacanis. He said this update is one of the biggest changes since Version 12 came out in late 2023.
Musk explained the rollout plan: Version 14.0 will go to a wider group of early users starting next week. Then, about two weeks later, Version 14.1 will follow. The final one, Version 14.2, will wrap things up a bit after that.
He added that by Version 14.2, the car will feel almost like it is aware and thinking on its own—like it has a mind of its own. Musk has used strong words before, like calling earlier versions “mind-blowing” or “alive,” but this time he picked “sentient” to show how smart and natural the driving will seem.

The update builds on what Tesla has learned from its robotaxi tests in Austin, Texas, but it is not the full unsupervised version used there. It will use bigger brain-like networks with ten times more building blocks, helping the car make better choices in traffic, like changing lanes or stopping at lights.
Drivers should hear fewer annoying alerts to touch the wheel, making rides smoother. It works only on newer Tesla cars with the latest hardware, called HW4.
Musk replied to investor Jason Calacanis, who said his rides on the older Version 13 were perfect and that Tesla should take its time to get it right. Musk agreed, saying they are being careful to make sure it is safe. This cautious rollout means not all owners will get it at once.
Tesla owners who pay for FSD or subscribe can look forward to over-the-air downloads that add these skills without a shop visit. If you have a newer Model 3, Model Y, Model S, or Model X, check your car’s software soon. Musk’s words have fans excited, but remember, FSD still needs a driver alert and ready. This could make Tesla’s cars even more fun and easy to use, pushing them closer to driving alone one day. Keep an eye on X for more from Musk as the update drops!
