Tesla has kicked off deliveries of its popular Model Y electric SUV in India today, September 29, 2025. This is a big moment, just two months after the company opened its first showroom in Mumbai on July 15. The Tesla Model Y is Tesla’s entry point into the Indian market, bringing a roomy, high-tech ride that runs on battery power instead of petrol. All the first cars come from Tesla’s factory in Shanghai, China, and buyers in cities like Mumbai and Delhi are getting them first.
The Model Y comes in two main versions right now. The base Rear-Wheel Drive model starts at Rs 59.89 lakh and gives up to 500 km on a full charge. The Long Range version costs Rs 67.89 lakh and stretches to 622 km per charge. Both use a 60 kWh battery that’s good for city drives and longer trips.
To book one, you pay Rs 22,220 upfront, plus Rs 50,000 for setup and service fees. You can order online at tesla.com or visit the experience centers in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex or Delhi’s Aerocity for a test drive.
Tesla is making it easy to charge at home with a free Wall Connector for every new buyer. This plugs into your regular outlet and fills the battery overnight, so you start each day ready to go.
No more fuel stops—just plug in and save money on travel, as running costs are super low at about Rs 1-2 per km. For quick top-ups, Tesla has opened stations in Mumbai’s One BKC (four fast chargers and four slower ones) and Delhi’s Aerocity (four fast and three slower). These fast ones can add 267 km in just 15 minutes, and your phone app tells you where they are and preps the battery for speed.
Inside, the Model Y feels modern and simple. There’s a big 15-inch screen for maps, music, and controls—no traditional buttons. It seats five comfortably with plenty of space for bags, and the back seats fold flat for even more room.
Safety features watch for blind spots, keep you in your lane, and even handle basic driving tasks if you add the Rs 6 lakh self-driving package (though some parts need local okay from rules). It’s quiet, smooth, and fun to drive, with quick speedup from the electric motor.
Tesla’s top boss in India, Virat Neelakantan, shared the excitement: “Starting Model Y deliveries is a huge step for sustainable rides here. We’re building a network so everyone can switch to electric easily.”
This launch comes as Tesla grows its spots in India, with plans for more showrooms and chargers soon. It faces tough competition from local electric SUVs like the Tata Harrier EV or Mahindra XUV400, but Tesla’s tech and range stand out.
If you’ve been waiting for an electric family car that’s smart and green, the Model Y is here. Head to a Tesla center for a spin—the first ones are rolling out now!
