Ducati is working on a fresh version of its popular DesertX adventure motorcycle, often called the DesertX V2. Spy photos from test rides in Europe have leaked some exciting details about what’s coming. This update looks set to keep the bike’s tough off-road spirit while making it lighter and more fun to ride. The Italian brand hasn’t shared official plans yet, but the photos suggest a reveal could happen soon, maybe at the big EICMA bike show in early November 2025. If all goes well, it might hit roads in 2026.
The spy shots show a test bike covered in camouflage, but key changes stand out. The overall shape stays close to the current DesertX, with its tall stance, round twin headlights up front, and high fenders for mud and dust. The front end looks almost the same, keeping that rugged adventure look.
At the back, though, the tail section seems shorter and neater, giving a more compact feel. The swingarm—the arm that holds the rear wheel—also looks different, possibly stronger or lighter for better handling on rough paths. These tweaks hint at small design updates to make it sharper without losing its go-anywhere charm.
The big news from the photos is the engine swap. The current DesertX uses a 937cc single-cylinder motor that gives about 110 horsepower—strong for twisting through trails or cruising highways. The new one appears to borrow the 890cc V2 twin-cylinder engine from Ducati’s updated Multistrada V2.

This setup cranks out similar power, around 115 horsepower, but in a smoother, more balanced way thanks to two cylinders working together. The real win? It’s lighter by about 5.8 kg, and paired with a redesigned frame, the whole bike could shed up to 18 kg from the current 223 kg weight. That means quicker turns, less effort on climbs, and easier control when loaded with bags for long trips.
Ducati’s adventure bikes like the DesertX are built for riders who mix dirt roads with paved streets. The V2 version should keep goodies like adjustable suspension for bumpy rides, big 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels for grip, and electronic aids to help with traction and braking on loose ground.
Expect the same roomy seat and upright handlebars for all-day comfort, plus spots for extra fuel or gear. Prices might start around Rs 18-20 lakh in India, similar to the current model, but could rise a bit for the upgrades.
A Ducati spokesperson hasn’t commented on the leaks yet, but the company has big plans for 2025, including other adventure updates like the DesertX Discovery. These spy shots have fans buzzing, as the DesertX has been a hit since its 2022 launch for its mix of power and playfulness.
If you love bikes that tackle deserts or backroads with style, this V2 could be a game-changer. Keep an eye on Ducati’s site for the official word—those test rides mean it’s getting close!
