Mercedes-Benz India has launched the G 450d, a powerful new diesel version of its famous G-Class SUV. This tough off-roader brings back diesel power to the lineup after a year away, joining petrol and electric options. Priced at Rs 2.90 crore (ex-showroom), it’s the most affordable G-Class in India right now, but only 50 units are available at first for special buyers. The launch happened on October 13, 2025, and deliveries start soon.
The G 450d keeps the boxy, strong shape that makes the G-Class a hit for rough roads and city style. It has a wide grille, round LED headlights, and big 20-inch wheels with grippy tires.
The body sits on a ladder frame with three locks for wheels to handle mud, sand, or steep hills. It clears 241 mm off the ground and can wade through 700 mm of water. Colors include classic ones like black or grey, with options for custom touches.
Under the hood, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel engine makes 367 horsepower and 750 Nm of pulling power—more than older diesel G-Class cars.
A small electric helper adds 20 horsepower for better starts and fuel savings. Power goes to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox, hitting 100 km/h from a stop in 5.8 seconds and topping 210 km/h. It’s smooth for highways but strong for off-road fun.
Inside, the cabin feels quiet and fancy with thick glass and extra soundproofing. Seats are wrapped in soft Nappa leather that holds you in turns, with heating and massage for long trips. A curved screen setup has two 12.3-inch displays for maps, music, and car info, plus lights that change colors to match your mood.
A big 18-speaker Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos plays clear tunes. Safety includes automatic braking, lane help, and a 360-degree camera to see around easily.
Santosh Iyer, head of Mercedes-Benz India, said: “The G 450d gives diesel fans the full G-Class experience—power, luxury, and off-road skill. Now we offer petrol, diesel, and electric for every buyer.”
