Renault Kwid EV Shows Up Overseas: When its Coming to India?

Renault has given a sneak peek at its new electric version of the Kwid EV, spotted testing in places like Brazil and Europe. This small battery-powered car, based on the popular Kwid hatchback, looks ready for real roads with a fresh face and simple updates. It’s a big step for Renault in the green car world, and while there’s no official word yet, it could hit Indian showrooms by early 2026. That would make it a cheap choice for city drivers switching from petrol, priced around Rs 7-8 lakh.

The Kwid EV keeps the boxy shape folks know from the regular Kwid but gets a cleaner front look. It has slim LED lights that run across the top for better night views, a small grille with straight bars, and the Renault logo right in the middle. Below that sits the charging spot for plugging in.

The sides have pull-out door handles that hide away to cut wind drag, and the fenders match the Indian Kwid’s style. At the back, expect basic tail lights and a small spoiler. It rolls on 15-inch wheels with tires good for city bumps or light paths. Colors might include bright ones like red or white to stand out.

Inside, it’s simple and roomy for four people, with space for bags in the back. You get two screens: a small one for the driver to check speed and battery, and a bigger 10-inch one in the middle for maps, music, and phone calls.

It links to your phone without wires for easy use. Air conditioning turns on with a button, and there are spots to charge devices. Safety adds include cameras to watch lanes and signs on the road, plus basic brakes that grip well. Seats are cloth and comfy for short trips.

Power comes from a 26.8 kWh battery that gives about 225 km on one full charge—enough for daily runs without worry. A small electric motor makes 45 or 65 horsepower, depending on the version, for smooth starts in traffic. It tops out at 125 km/h and charges to 80% in 29 minutes at fast spots or a few hours at home. No gears to shift; just press the pedal and go.

This Kwid EV is like the Dacia Spring sold in other countries, but tuned for hot places like India. Renault says it’s cheap to run, with low power costs and no oil changes. It would go head-to-head with small EVs like the Tata Tiago EV or MG Comet, but at a lower price to pull in first-time buyers.

Renault India hasn’t said much yet, but test cars have been seen here too. With the push for cleaner cars, this could be a hit for folks wanting an easy electric start. Keep watching for news—the overseas tests mean it’s close!
