Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited facelift of the popular Punch micro-SUV today. The refreshed model starts at an attractive ex-showroom price of Rs 5.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.49 lakh (top-end automatic variant). This updated Punch brings a sharper design, new features and improved safety equipment while keeping the same strong value-for-money appeal that made the original a bestseller.
Design & Exterior Changes
The new Punch looks more modern and aggressive. Key updates include:
- Redesigned front with larger grille, sleeker LED headlamps and new DRL signature.
- Revised bumper with bigger air intakes and silver skid plate.
- Fresh alloy wheel designs (16-inch on higher variants).
- Connected LED tail lamps with new light pattern.
- New colour options including a bold Calypso Red and fresh dual-tone combinations.
Overall length has increased slightly due to new bumpers, giving it a more planted stance.
Interior & Features
Inside, the cabin feels more premium with:
- New two-tone dashboard layout (black + light grey/beige options).
- Updated 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.
- 10.25-inch digital driver display on higher variants (7-inch on base models).
- Ventilated front seats (segment-first in this price range).
- Ambient lighting, wireless charger, cruise control, auto headlamps & wipers.
- Air purifier with AQI display.
- Rear AC vents (finally added).
- Push-button start, keyless entry, auto-dimming IRVM.
The boot space remains practical at 366 litres, and rear seat comfort is unchanged.
Safety Equipment
Tata has made safety a big focus:
- 6 airbags standard across all variants (big upgrade from earlier models).
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with traction control.
- Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control.
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
- ISOFIX child seat mounts.
- 360-degree camera on top variants.
- Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert on higher trims.
The facelift continues to carry a 5-star Global NCAP rating.
Engine & Transmission Options
No major mechanical changes. The Punch facelift keeps the same proven engines:
- 1.2-litre Revotron petrol (87 PS, 115 Nm) – manual or AMT.
- 1.2-litre iCNG bi-fuel (73.5 PS on CNG, 102 Nm) – manual only.
- No diesel or turbo-petrol option (those are reserved for Nexon and higher SUVs).
Fuel efficiency remains competitive at around 18-20 kmpl (petrol) and 26+ km/kg (CNG).
Variant-Wise Pricing (Ex-Showroom)
- Pure (base) → Rs 5.59 lakh
- Adventure → Rs 6.29–7.19 lakh
- Accomplished → Rs 7.49–8.49 lakh
- Creative → Rs 8.79–9.49 lakh
Automatic variants add around Rs 80,000–1 lakh over manual.
Competition & Verdict
The updated Punch now competes more strongly against Hyundai Exter, Tata Nexon (entry variants), Maruti Fronx, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. With better features, standard 6 airbags and CNG option, it strengthens its position as one of the most practical and safe compact SUVs under Rs 10 lakh.
