Tesla Cuts Price on New Model 3 Standard by $6,000

Tesla released a more affordable version of its popular Model 3 electric sedan, called the Model 3 Standard. This base model now starts at $36,990, a drop of $6,000 from the previous entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive trim. The change makes the Model 3 even easier to buy for folks wanting a quick, battery-powered car without all the extras. It keeps key upgrades like hardware ready for the newest self-driving software, called Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 14, while skipping a few fancy bits to hit the lower price. Orders are open now on Tesla’s website, with deliveries starting soon in the US and other markets.

The Model 3 Standard keeps the smooth, modern shape of the refreshed Model 3 but focuses on basics to save money. It has the same single rear-wheel motor that pushes it from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.8 seconds and offers around 272 miles on a full charge—similar to the base Model Y SUV.

Up front, there’s a new camera in the bumper with a washer to keep it clean, helping with parking and future self-driving features. All new Model 3s, including this one, come with the latest computer hardware (HW4) that supports FSD 14 right from the factory. This means you can add advanced driving aids later without hardware swaps.

To keep costs down, Tesla made a few simple changes. There’s no high-end air filter for cleaner cabin air, no extra screen in the back for passengers, and the headlights use standard auto high beams instead of smart ones that adjust to traffic.

The seats are cloth with manual adjustments, and the sound system has seven speakers without the premium bass. Mirrors and rear seats fold by hand, but it still includes a big glass roof for light and views. Safety basics like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warnings, and over-the-air updates stay the same.

This Standard trim slots below the new Premium Rear-Wheel Drive ($42,490) and All-Wheel Drive options. It’s just $3,000 less than the base Model Y Standard, giving buyers a cheaper sedan choice if they don’t need the extra space of an SUV. Tesla also cut the Full Self-Driving package to $8,000 outright or $99 a month, making upgrades simpler.

A Tesla spokesperson said: “The Model 3 Standard brings our best tech to more people, with room to grow through software adds.” This launch helps Tesla compete in the busy electric car market, where cheaper options from brands like Chevy or Hyundai are gaining ground.

If you’re shopping for a zippy electric ride that saves on gas and handles like a sports car, the Model 3 Standard could fit the bill. Check tesla.com to build one—the price drop makes it a steal for first-time EV owners!
